The Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside is one of the most popular entertainment venues in Southern California. It is a state-of-the-art, 2,000-seat theater that hosts a wide variety of events, including concerts, dance performances, theatrical productions, and more. The Fox has something for everyone!
The History of the Fox Performing Arts Center
The Fox Performing Arts Center was built in 1929 and originally served as a movie palace. It was designed by architect Charles F. Paine and opened to the public on December 27, 1929 with the premiere of the film “In Old Arizona.” The Fox quickly became one of the most popular movie theaters in the region, known for its luxurious setting and first-class customer service.
However, by the late 1970s, the popularity of movie theaters had begun to decline. In 1977, the Fox was closed and remained vacant for nearly two decades. In 1994, a group of local citizens formed the “Save Our fox” campaign and began raising funds to renovations. And finally, in 2009, after years of effort, the Fox Performing Arts Center reopened its doors to the public.
Today, the Fox is once again one of the premier entertainment venues in Southern California. It hosts more than 200 events each year, which attracts visitors from all over the region. If you’re ever in Riverside, be sure to check out the Fox Performing Arts Center! You won’t be disappointed!
